What Is Time Line Therapy® ?
Time Line Therapy® (TLT) is a powerful therapeutic process that evolved from NLP and Hypnosis which was developed by Tad James, PhD in the 1980s. It was developed by applying a therapeutic process to the concept that we store our memories in a linear form within an internal memory storage system.
It utilises a person’s own internal “Time Line” to work with their unconscious mind in a variety of ways, including healing emotional traumas and eradicating unwanted thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
Your “Time LIne” is how you unconsciously store your memories or how you unconsciously know the difference between a memory from the past and a projection of the future. Behavioural change in an individual takes place at an unconscious level. People don’t change consciously. The Time Line Therapy® techniques allow you to work at the unconscious level and release the effects of past negative experiences and change “inappropriate” programming in hours rather than days, months or years.
The Goal of Time Line Therapy®
The goal of TLT is to subtly and unconsciously change patterns of behaviour so that you can react to present experiences based on present conditions rather than reacting to them based on painful emotions linked to past events.
We all have events from the past that have some unresolved negative emotions attached to them. These emotions are “bagged up” and stored in our body. We expel a huge amount of energy carrying these “bags” around with us all day, everyday. Time Line Therapy® is a wonderful technique of going back to those events and understanding the event and letting go of the emotions attached to it.
TLT does not remove the memory of the event. That wouldn’t be ethical, after all, these memories are our history, they are an integral part of who we are. Instead, TLT removes the unhelpful emotions that are associated with the event.
With the Time Line Therapy® techniques, we now have a way to resolve significant events in a person’s past, which is in alignment with how the unconscious mind already operates. We also gain the ability to release the negative emotions in those memories easily and quickly, or at least in a reasonable amount of time.
TLT allows you to go to the root of the problem. For example, if you want to release anger, you return to the first time you felt anger, relese that and all subsequent anger at significant emotional events up until the present time. This is referred to as a Gesalt, that is a sequence of significant emotional events that are all linked together. Imagine a pearl necklace with each pear representing a significant emotional event in your life.
What would be the impact on you if:
- you released all of the anger in your past memories, whilst preserving the learnings from those events. Or if you released the sadness, fear, guilt or any other unhelpful emotion?
- you could go back and re-do any old decision that you made in the past and decide in a new way, a way that supported who you want to be now? Then what if we could have every event in the past be re-evaluated in such a way as to support the way you wanted to be now? With TLT we also have the ability to re-evaluate our past and change any decision which limits us in the present. To a certain degree, our behaviour is guided by the decisions that we’ve made in the past. Whether conscious or unconscious, these decisions affect our behaviour in the present.
- you had a reliable way to create your future the way you wanted it, and actually have that thing or event happen? The processes for creating your future are as powerful as the processes for releasing negative emotions and clearing out limiting decisions.
